Webby Awards Introduces “Creators,” “Brand Of The Year” Categories, Expands “Video & Film” For 29th Annual Event

The Webby Awards, dubbed “the Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, is launching its 29th annual call for entries today with a new focus on content creators. 

Celebrating excellence across various digital platforms, the awards are expanding their recognition categories to keep pace with the growing creator economy.

“The 29th Annual Webby Awards offer a chance to embrace innovation, celebrate excellence, and elevate outstanding online work,” Nick Borenstein, General Manager of The Webby Awards, said in a news release.

Borenstein added that a new panel of judges will select the Internet’s best and ensure The Webbys remain “a beacon of inspiration” in a more “connected future.”

Creators in the Spotlight

A dedicated suite of “Creators” awards aims to highlight a new generation of content producers across multiple mediums. These categories include:

The Webbys are also introducing Creator Excellence honors, such as Best Brand Endorsement, Best Community Engagement, and Best Editing.

Video & Film

In response to the growing impact of digital video and film, the awards are expanding their ‘Video & Film’ category. 

New recognitions will honor independent short films, series, channels, limited series, and specials across various genres, including scripted content, sports, interviews, documentaries, and comedy.

The Webby Awards are also introducing a “Brand of the Year” recognition, targeting innovative work in the industry. This special achievement award will be given to the brand with the most success across the competition.

Meet the Judges

To evaluate submissions, The Webby Awards are adding new judges to the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. 

Notable additions include Amelia Dimoldenberg, creator of “Chicken Shop Date”; Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi; Desiree Perez, CEO of Roc Nation; and Nick Digiovanni, chef and creator.

The early entry deadline for the 29th Annual Webby Awards is October 25, 2024. 

According to the release, the awards received nearly 13,000 entries from 50 states and 70 countries last year. Previous winners include major brands and figures such as Apple, NASA, Netflix, and Taylor Swift.
