Fiverr Vs. KonKer — Feature Comparison For Buyers And Sellers
Which freelance platform is the best for freelancers and clients?
Freelance work is one of the most popular ways to work right now. With flexible hours, the ability to work from the comfort of your home, and the option to work with a range of different companies, it’s no wonder why more and more people are choosing to freelance. And from an employer’s perspective, hiring freelancers can be cheaper and more convenient than hiring staff.
Back in the day, it could be difficult to connect freelancers with those looking to purchase those services. But now, there are many platforms available to help connect.
Today, we will be looking at two of these platforms, Fiverr and KonKer.
Fiverr
What is Fiverr?
Fiverr is a two-way marketplace designed to allow freelancers and clients to connect to exchange services. Founded in 2010, the platform is one of the most popular of its kind due to the heavy media attention it has received in recent years.
Originally, all services started at $5 USD, hence the namesake. But as the quality of freelance work has improved, as well as the amount of people on the site, many services can go for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Fiverr has a unique set of services, including typical freelancing such as content writing, programming, and graphic design, but also services such as relationship advice and psychic readings.
How does Fiverr work for freelancers?
Fiverr is completely free to use, so once you get your account set up, you can start making money.
Fiverr works by allowing freelancers to post gigs, which is how you will advertise your services to potential clients.
When posting gigs, make sure to include key information such as deadlines, budget, and your qualifications. Why should people hire you for their project?
Below is an example of a high-rated seller’s gig posting.
As you can see, this seller has provided their experience, the type of product you will receive, and what the client needs to do to move forward.
Introducing yourself to potential clients will allow them to feel closer to you, and can allow for personal relationships to develop.
As you grow on the site, you can also level up. Fiverr has four different levels you can achieve. Every seller automatically starts off as a New Seller. Once you achieve certain landmarks, such as completing at least ten orders and maintaining a rating of 4.7 stars, you can level up to Level 1, Level 2, and the highest level, Top Rated Seller.
At each level, you can unlock new features, such as the ability to post more gigs and withdraw your money quicker. For a complete list of information about these levels, visit Fiverr’s level FAQ here.
These levels also give you the options to create packages for your gigs. These packages can allow for you to have different pricing tiers for your service. These pricing tiers are basic, standard, and premium, and can be priced at any way you like.
Most premium packages are more expensive but offer more content, quicker turnaround time, or the option to have multiple revisions if your client is not completely satisfied with their final product.
Below is an example of 3 different packages from one gig.
Note – it’s important to remember that Fiverr takes 20% from all your total sales. That means you will be taking home 80% of your profits.
How does Fiverr work for clients?
Unlike many websites, Fiverr allows you to easily switch between being a buyer or a seller, so you only have to make one account. This means if you are a freelancer but still want to purchase a service, you can browse other gigs just as easily.
If you are looking for a specific project and can’t find a freelancer for the job, you can try posting a request. In this case, Fiverr will try to match freelancers to your post and you can work one-on-one with sellers to try and find someone who will match your project.
This is where you can discuss budget, timeline, and what exact product you wish to receive.
Below is an example of the request form Fiverr will have you fill out.
Note – Fiver will charge a 5.5% on all orders, and an extra $2 fee for all orders under $50 USD. However, the site does continue to be free to use for all clients and freelancers.
KonKer
What is Konker?
KonKer is a freelance marketplace allowing for people to buy and sell services, such as graphic design, programming, SEO, and more.
Originally titled Source Market, the site has recently gone through a rebrand to focus on SEO and marketing.
How does KonKer work for sellers?
After signing up for KonKer, you can create a profile and open up your “store” to the public. This is how clients will find your work. This profile will show clients –
- When you first joined the site
- Your reviews
- A thumbs up / thumbs down ratio
- Refund and failure rate
- When you last logged onto the site.
KonKer has a strict way of vetting sellers to allow for only the best freelancer’s to be earning sales on the site. Users and clients can give out awards such as Best Store Ever for outstanding work. This button will appear on your profile and will show other clients that your work has been greatly appreciated.
You are also ranked on how much you reply to potential clients, and show how responsive you are as a freelancer.
Below is an example of a highly rated gig.
What are their fees?
KonKer has one of the lowest fees of any freelance site. Compared to Fiverr, which takes 20% commission, KonKer only takes 5% from your total sales.
You also have the option of signing up for their affiliate program, which allows you to receive 17.5% commission when customers purchase a service through your link.
When you share a store’s link, you even get a 15% off discount from that store’s service.
You can also apply for the Black Level Membership, which is $37 USD a month. This will allow you to auto-bill your clients, create coupons for your store, create Ads, have access to live chat for customer support, and KonKer will push your profile to clients.
How does KonKer work for buyers?
Similarly to being a seller, KonKer is free to sign up and use and you can easily switch between being a buyer or seller with one single profile.
Once you find a freelancer’s gig you want to work with, KonKer recommends messaging the profile first and starting a conversation about deadlines, budget, and the exact service you will want to receive.
If a freelancer fails to return the work promised within the deadline, you will automatically be refunded by KonKer. If the work is not as promised, a refund can also be discussed.
You can give out awards to top-rated freelancers to promote the stores you love to work with and encourage future clients to work with them as well.
Which site is the better freelance platform?
Although both profiles have their advantages and disadvantages, such as KonKer having limited customer service support and many seller pages being inactive, both sites have been known to provide quality work to their clients. For more of a range of services, Fiverr may be more your alley, but for SEO and marketing, KonKer could be a great choice as well.
