Fiverr Vs. Simply Hired – Freelance Platform Comparison For Buyers And Sellers
Freelance work is becoming one of the most popular ways to work. With the flexible hours, the ability to work from the comfort of your home, and the range of different companies you can work for, it’s no wonder why more and more people are turning to freelance and remote jobs.
From an employer’s perspective, hiring freelancers can be a more economical choice rather than hiring in-house staff.
Back in the day, it could be difficult to connect freelancers to employers looking to purchase these services. But now, there are many platforms that do this job for you.
Today, we will be comparing two alternatives, Fiverr and Simply Hired.
Fiverr
What is Fiverr?
Fiverr is a digital marketplace designed to connect freelancers to clients looking to purchase these services. Fiverr has a range of different categories, from help with coding your own website to life coaching.
Founded in 2010, the site originally operated under the premise that services would all start at $5, hence the namesake. But these days, many services can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. The highest paying jobs are website building, social media management, resume writing, copywriting, and proofreading.
Fiverr is now a global sensation and a billion dollar company and has serviced millions of people.
How does Fiverr work for freelancers?
Fiverr is completely free to use, which is different from many freelance platforms. Once you sign up, you can start posting gigs – this is how you will advertise your services.
When you post a gig, clients can order directly from your posting.
You want to make sure you include important details in your posting – the more specific, the better. Include details such as dates, timelines, testimonials, and examples of what your finished product will look like. You can even include an introductory video. Make sure to include your experience and why they should hire you for their project.
Below is an example of a gig post from a top rated seller.
As you can see, they have highlighted important information, and also included why you should hire them. They also have pricing, and the ability to compare different packaging prices. You can also see that they have had many repeated buyers, as well as clients from respected brands.
This is an example of a top rated seller.
Fiverr ranks all their sellers on a ranking system. You automatically start as a New Seller, and can move from Level 1, Level 2, and then Top Rated Seller.
The higher your ranking, the more likely clients are to purchase from you. You also unlock features such as being able to upload more gigs the higher your ranking.
To move from New Seller to Level 1, you must
- Be an active seller for at least 60 days
- Complete at least 10 orders
- Earn $400 or more
- Maintain a 4.7-star rating over 60 days
- Deliver a 90% response rate score over 60 days
- Score a 90% order completion rate over 60 day
- Achieve a 90% on-time delivery score over 60 days
- Receive no warnings over 30 days
Read below to see how you can move up to Level 2 and become a Top Rated Seller.
You can check out your progress on your Seller Dashboard to see how close you are to moving up to the next rank. This is also where you can communicate with clients, see your analytics, and see how much money you’ve earned.
Note – Regardless of your ranking, Fiverr still takes a 20% cut from your earnings. That means you’ll walk home with 80% of your total profits.
How does Fiverr work for clients?
Fiverr is also free to use for clients, and you can use the same account as both a freelancer and a client.
Instead of creating gig postings, you can search through the many different categories and find the freelancer that works best for your project.
If you don’t find any freelancer that fits your fancy, you can always submit a request to Fiverr to match you with a freelancer. This is where you can describe what your project is, and Fiverr will give you freelancers that will probably fit your request.
Once you find a freelancer you want to work with, you should always message the seller first before hitting the order button. This is so you can discuss details such as timelines, budget, and make sure this freelancer will fit the vision you have in mind.
You will be charged once you hit the order button, but the freelancer won’t be paid until the order has been delivered to you and you are satisfied with the results. Many sellers offer revisions if you are not satisfied with the final product.
Fiverr charges a 5.5% fee on all orders and an extra $2 if the order is under $50.
