Freelance work is one of the most lucrative careers at the moment. With flexible hours, the ability to work from the comfort of your home, and the multitude of different companies you can work for, more and more writers, programmers, and artists are becoming freelancers.

From a company’s perspective, it can be a lot easier to hire freelancers for work rather than hiring full employees. A lot of the time, it’s a win-win situation. 

Back in the day, it could be difficult for freelancers to find work without already being established, but with the rise of work from home options after the pandemic, many sites have appeared to help connect freelancers to those looking to purchase those services.

What is Fiverr?

Fiverr is a two-sided marketplace designed to help connect freelancers and clients. Fiverr is by far the most popular of these services and has been the recipient of heavy media attention in the past few years. 

Founded in 2010 in Israel, the site has since helped connect millions of people for a range of different services, from website design to relationship advice. Originally, services started at just $5, hence the namesake. But as the quality of work has increased, as well as the quantity of freelancers and clients, many services can cost upwards of hundreds to thousands of dollars per service.

The highest paying services are resume writing, copywriting, proofreading, website building and social media management. Fiverr is a global success and currently a billion dollar company. 

How does Fiverr work for Freelancers?

Fiverr is completely free to use for both freelancers and those looking to purchase these services. Once you sign up, you can start creating gigs – this is how people will order from you.

When crafting your gig, you want to make sure you include important information, such as details about timelines, your rate, and your experience. You can even include photos and videos of your finished product, as well as an introductory video.

This seller is one of Fiverr’s top rated sellers.

Fiverr ranks all their sellers by New Seller, Level 1, Level 2, and Top Rated Seller. The higher your ranking, the more likely you are to get orders from clients.

You can unlock key features as you move up the ranks, including being able to post more gigs. In order to move up from New Seller to Level 1, you must

• Be an active seller for at least 60 days
• Complete at least 10 orders 
• Earn $400 or more
• Maintain a 4.7-star rating over 60 days
• Deliver a 90% response rate score over 60 days
• Score a 90% order completion rate over 60 day
• Achieve a 90% on-time delivery score over 60 days
• Receive no warnings over 30 days

You can track your ranking on your seller dashboard. This is also where you will get key information, such as your analytics, how many orders you’ve sold, your total earnings, and how you can communicate with your clients.

Fiverr takes a 20% cut from all your profits, regardless of your ranking level. That means you will come home with 80% of your total profits.

How does Fiverr work for clients?

You can use the same account to easily switch between client and freelancer on Fiverr. Instead of posting a gig, you can search through the vast amount of categories and order directly from clients’ posts.

If you are struggling to find a freelancer that fits your project, you can also submit a request to Fiverr. They will match you with a freelancer they think could fit your project, and you can both discuss the details of your needs.

Remember to always contact a seller before completing your order. You want to confirm all details, such as deadlines, payment, and all the details of your project that are important to you. 

When you complete an order, you will be charged by Fiverr, but the freelancer won’t receive the payment until they deliver the order to you and you are satisfied with the product. Oftentimes, sellers will offer you revisions so you can ask to change a few things if you are not satisfied. 

Fiverr charges a 5.5% fee on all orders and an extra $2 USD fee for all orders under $50.

Well Found

What is Well Found? 

Well Found was formerly known as AngelList Talent. Founded in 2013, the site has 8 million candidates looking for jobs, and 130,000 tech jobs on the market. They have made 6 million matches since the site’s founding.

The platform has helped companies such as Honey, DoorDash, Roblox, Peloton, and more.

How Does Well Found Work for Freelancers?

It is free to sign up for Well Found and look for remote and freelance jobs. Once you create an account, you can customize your experience to you, including where you’re based, your experience, etc.

You can also discuss the type of work culture you want to work in, and what’s important to you in  a job. Do you require flexibility? Do you want to work a 9 hour workday? You can fill all this out now and find tailor jobs just for you.

Once you’ve crafted your profile, you can start applying for jobs. You don’t need to apply with a cover letter when your profile is already stacked with all your information. Simply find jobs you want to apply for, and let the company know you’re interested.

You can apply directly and privately to unique jobs that are not offered on any other platform. 

It’s important to note that many of these jobs are from tech startups, meaning freelancers who are working in tech and design fields will have a higher chance of finding jobs.

How does Well Found work for employers?

If you want to post a job or a project on Well Found, you need to subscribe to a premium plan. This plan is $249 a month, and there is also a customized plan available if you wish to contact the Well Found team.

What does the premium plan get you?You

You can view all 8 million job profiles, have unlimited access to messaging, view pitch templates, instant scheduling, and more. 

You can also easily track your candidates’ interview process through the website. However, once you decide to hire a freelancer or remote worker, Well Found no longer becomes involved in payment, which means they charge no fees to you or the freelancer.

Which freelance platform will you choose?

For more long term projects and roles, Well Found is a great option for remote workers and freelancers, especially considering it is free for freelancers to use. However, for short term projects and the ability to work a lot of projects at once, Fiverr may be the best bet if you are a freelancer. 

For employers, depending on the size of your project and your budget, Well Found can help you find an amazing employee, but only if you are willing to pay the costs.
