Media & entertainment group Global has acquired the exclusive production and ad sales rights to The Trawl, a popular podcast hosted by political commentator Marina Purkiss and broadcaster & writer Jemma Forte, the company announced.

The Trawl, launched in July 2022, explores the biggest political stories each week. Purkiss and Forte dive into entertaining political discussions on social media and interview high-profile guests such as Carol Vorderman, Jen Brister, and Green Peer Jenny Jones.

Global’s award-winning in-house team now produces the podcast. It has become available to Global’s advertising partners for host read and spot ad opportunities through DAX, Global’s digital ad exchange with audience targeting and measurement capabilities.

“We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved so far with The Trawl, but it’s time to take it out of our bedrooms and into Global’s studios,” said Purkiss and Forte. “With Global behind us, we hope to continue growing our audience.”

Vicky Etchells, Global’s Head of News and Factual Podcasts stated in the announcement, “It’s the perfect time to expand our news podcast portfolio with so many political podcasts led by all-male lineups. I’m looking forward to working with two incredibly impressive women.”

The Trawl was previously produced and represented by Goalhanger.
