Meta Hosts First Creator Workshop In Lagos, Unveils New Monetization Tools For Nigerian Influencers

On July 18, Meta hosted its inaugural creator workshop in Lagos, Nigeria, gathering over 20 prominent content creators to explore new Facebook monetization opportunities.

The workshop featured a diverse group of Nigerian creators, including comedian Mark Angel, with over 22 million followers, and health influencer Dr. Chinonso Egemba, known as Aproko Doctor.

Other attendees included comedians Taaooma and Crazeclown, content creator Kie Kie, and food blogger Gina Ehikodi (Foodies&Spice).

Earlier, Meta announced two new monetization features for eligible Nigerian creators: In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels. These features will help creators generate income from original videos and community-building efforts.

The workshop provided insights into these new features and strategies for monetization, covering short-form content like Reels and longer video formats and reflecting the diverse content styles popular on the platform.

Facebook executives present at the event included Enitan Denloye, Regional Director for Africa, and Oluwasola Obagbemi, Corporate Communications Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Lagos workshop served as an overture to Meta’s efforts to strengthen its position in the African digital content space.

On July 24, the company announced it had removed about 63,000 accounts in Nigeria that tried to engage with the scams.

“Financial sextortion is a horrific crime that can have devastating consequences,” Meta stated in the report.

“Our teams have deep experience fighting this crime and work closely with experts to recognize scammers’ tactics, understand how they evolve, and develop effective ways to help stop them.”

It also removed 5,700 Facebook groups in which scammers offered tips on how to scam Nigerians.
