Creator Economy Job Listings Surge 66% In Q2: Which Skills Are Most In Demand? [REPORT]

The creator economy job market is experiencing significant growth, with job listings increasing by 66% from Q1 to Q2 2024, according to a new report from Creator Economy Jobs, a job board specializing in the creator economy.

The Q2 2024 Hiring Trends Report analyzed over 1,700 open roles across over 600 creator economy companies, revealing shifting hiring patterns and skills demand dynamics.

Job Market Breakdown

Engineering roles dominate the job market, accounting for 29% of all listings. However, this represents a 4.2% decrease compared to the previous quarter. 

Sales positions have climbed to the second spot, making up 16.8% of open roles and showing a 4.3% quarter-over-quarter increase. 

Marketing roles round out the top three at 10.6%, despite experiencing a 16.3% decline from Q1.

The report indicates a strong preference for experienced professionals in the creator economy. Mid-level positions requiring 2-5 years of experience comprise 44.8% of all job listings. 

Management roles account for 24.3%, while senior positions represent 20.9% of openings.

Entry-level opportunities remain limited, making up only 3.9% of total listings, and this shows no growth from the previous quarter.

Full-time positions dominate the job market, representing 97.8% of all listings. However, the report notes a 27% increase in part-time opportunities compared to Q1, although these still account for just 1.7% of total listings.

Geographical Trends

While the United States remains the primary location for creator economy jobs, it experienced a 26.7% decrease in listings compared to Q1. 

Remote job openings saw an even steeper decline, dropping by 41.1%. In contrast, some markets showed significant growth, with Indonesia increasing job listings by 60.7% and the United Kingdom by 24.4%.

At the city level, San Francisco maintains its position as the top location for creator economy jobs, with listings up 24% from the previous quarter. 

London and Los Angeles follow, with London showing a 15.3% increase in job postings while Los Angeles experienced a 34.1% decrease.

Other Takeaways

The report also highlights a growing interest in creator economy careers among job seekers. Google searches for “creator economy jobs” have increased by 200% year-over-year, indicating rising awareness and interest in the field.

Despite the overall growth in job listings, the report notes that layoffs continued in the sector during Q2, affecting over 1,300 positions across various companies.

As of July 2024, the top hiring companies in the creator economy include Coda Payments (185 open roles), Figma (81 open roles), and Podimo (78 open roles).
