Podimo Acquires Tonny Media: What It Means For Dutch Podcast Listeners
Danish podcast and audiobook subscription service Podimo announced the acquisition of Dutch podcast production house Tonny Media.
The acquisition builds on a strategic partnership formed in 2022, with Tonny Media producing exclusive shows for Podimo.
Both companies will continue to operate independently, combining their sales efforts and expertise.
Tonny Media, known for popular shows like “De Zelfspodcast” and “Geuze & Gorgels,” will maintain its leadership under CEO Titus van Dijk. The company specializes in formats featuring well-known Dutch personalities and manages in-house concept, production, and promotion.
“Over the years, we have succeeded in turning our ideas into unique content — ranging from podcasts to social media channels to TV productions, but we’re far from finished,” van Dijk said in a news release.
“We want to provide more revenue streams to our creators, more expertise in both formats and monetization and have a strong partner to fuel our international ambitions,” van Dijk added. “That’s why it’s time to take the next step with Podimo.”
The Dutch Takeover
Podimo entered the Dutch market in 2022, acquiring production house Dag en Nacht Media. This move introduced additional revenue streams, including advertising.
The company reports achieving profitability in the Netherlands, with a portfolio of 100 exclusive and in-house productions.
The combined forces of Podimo and Tonny Media aim to offer Dutch listeners a broader range of content, mixing exclusive and open RSS shows.
The merger of Tonny Media and Dag en Nacht Media’s sales teams is expected to attract larger advertising partners, potentially increasing creator revenue opportunities.
“The Netherlands is an important market for us, and our goal is to support Dutch creators in every way possible,” Podimo’s Chief Content Officer, Sachin Doshi, said in the release.
He added that while subscription remains core to their business, providing more options is key for creators and growth.
In July, Podimo was ranked among the top three hiring companies in the creator economy, alongside Coda Payments and Figma.
