Viral TikTok Saga ‘Who TF Did I Marry?’ Heads To TV, Starring Natasha Rothwell
Natasha Rothwell is set to star in and produce a television adaptation of “Who TF Did I Marry?”, the viral TikTok series that captivated social media audiences earlier this year.
According to Variety, ABC Signature secured the rights to the project following a competitive bidding process.
Rothwell’s production company, Big Hattie Productions, is developing the adaptation. Mary Sayama McHenry, recently hired as director of development at Big Hattie, joins the project after stints at CBS TV Studios and Get Lifted Film Company.
The announcement comes as Rothwell prepares for the September 13 premiere of “How to Die Alone,” a Hulu comedy she created and stars in. She is also set to reprise her Emmy-nominated role in the third season of “The White Lotus.”
Who is “Reesa Teesa”?
The original TikTok series, created by Tareasa “Reesa Teesa” Johnson, consists of 50 videos totaling over eight hours.
Johnson’s account of her relationship with an ex-husband, whom she describes as a pathological liar, garnered more than 450 million impressions across social platforms. The series led to Johnson amassing over 3 million followers in two weeks.
Her openness about her marital experiences resonated with viewers, leading to appearances on Good Morning America and The Tamron Hall Show.
Johnson holds a degree in criminal justice from Kennesaw State University and has studied international law and counterterrorism in the Hague.
Following the viral success of her series, Johnson signed with CAA in March, hoping to “bring this story and personal experiences to an even bigger platform and let those in similar circumstances know they are not alone.”
“I know choosing to work with [Rothwell] is the best decision,” Johnson wrote on Instagram. “I cannot wait for us to bring this experience to life.”
