NSA Launches ‘No Such Podcast’ To Share Untold Stories From America’s Most Mysterious Agency

The National Security Agency (NSA) has entered podcasting with “No Such Podcast,” a new series to provide insights into the agency’s covert operations and cybersecurity efforts.

The initiative is part of the NSA’s ongoing efforts to increase transparency and engage with the public.

“Because it’s sensitive, we can’t talk about some of our work, but it’s time to start telling more stories that we can talk about, sharing more of that expertise, and highlighting these incredible public servants,” said Sara Siegle, NSA’s Chief of Strategic Communications, in a recent press release.

The podcast, set to run for seven installments, spotlights the work of the agency’s cryptologists and cryptanalysts.

Key topics covered in the initial episodes include the NSA’s role in locating Osama Bin Laden and the importance of cybersecurity. Prominent figures such as Natalie Laing, the NSA’s Director of Operations, and Jon Darby, former Director of Operations, feature in detailed discussions.

The podcast also explores the agency’s stance on encryption, touching on historical events like the 1990s Crypto Wars and current encryption challenges.

An NSA spokesperson noted that while recruitment is not the primary goal, the podcast may inspire listeners to consider careers with the agency. This approach aligns with the NSA’s broader strategy to attract STEM graduates who might otherwise gravitate towards tech giants or startups.

The podcast launch follows the NSA’s recent efforts to establish a presence on social media platforms like X, Instagram, and Facebook.

Although “No Such Podcast” offers insights into the NSA’s operations, it stops short of full transparency, notably omitting Edward Snowden’s 2013 revelations about the agency’s surveillance programs. Laing pointed out that the NSA only collects security-relevant information while addressing public concerns about surveillance practices.
