TikTok STEM Feed Is Now Available To All Users

TikTok is expanding its STEM feed access to all users in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland, moving beyond its initial teens-only default setting.

The feature, which previously targeted users under 18, is becoming a standard offering across these markets while maintaining an opt-out option through the app’s content preferences settings.

According to TechCrunch, the platform reports an 18% increase in STEM-related content since the feed’s introduction, with videos in this category accumulating 200 million views. TikTok positions the feed as a space for co-learning, inspiration, and enrichment, with plans to introduce local language support in future updates.

This expansion follows TikTok CEO Shou Chew’s discussions of the STEM feed during two U.S. congressional hearings in March 2023 and January 2024. The company initially launched the feature in response to concerns from lawmakers and rights groups about the platform’s impact on young users and its engagement practices.

Users can disable the STEM feed through the app’s settings menu by accessing the “content preferences” section. The company’s data shows significant user engagement with STEM content since the feed’s launch, suggesting a sustained interest in educational material among its user base.

Building on its popularity in the United States, TikTok launched a STEM feed in Europe in April to empower discovery and connect a community over shared interests.

Earlier this month, TikTok launched a dedicated STEM feed in Canada in partnership with Canadian creators and organizations to populate the feed with educational content.
