Instagram’s Latest Test Feature Reveals What Makes Reels Stand Out
Instagram is developing a new analytics feature that provides creators with detailed performance insights for their Reels content, according to app researcher Radu Oncescu.
Currently, in internal testing at Meta, the feature displays contextual notes within the Reels feed explaining why specific clips perform well.
The “Reels tips” function offers creators a breakdown of elements contributing to successful content, including engagement rates, view counts, and interaction levels. Users can access detailed performance metrics by tapping in-stream prompts, providing insights into how Instagram’s algorithm ranks Reels content.

Meta reports that Reels generates over 200 billion cumulative daily views across Instagram and Facebook, making it Meta’s fastest-growing content type. This growth coincides with increased AI-driven content recommendations, with Meta’s AI system now generating more than 50% of posts appearing in Instagram feeds rather than content from followed accounts.
The performance notes feature may be limited to Creator accounts, as general users might find the additional data points less relevant. Meta has not announced plans for a public release, and the feature remains in internal testing.
