Logan Paul, Conor McGregor To Face Off In Massive Influencer Boxing Match In India, Backed By One Of Asia’s Richest Family?
Former UFC champion Conor McGregor announced he is in preliminary discussions with the Ambani family to stage an exhibition boxing match against creator and entrepreneur Logan Paul in India.
McGregor tweeted about the potential matchup on December 17: “The rumors of a bout with [UFC champion Ilia Topuria] are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India.” The Ambani family, led by patriarch Mukesh Ambani, whom Forbes ranks Asia’s richest person and the world’s ninth-wealthiest individual, would reportedly back the event.
The announcement follows recent developments in influencer boxing’s expansion into the Indian market. Last month, Indian fighter Neeraj Goyat defeated Brazil’s Whindersson Nunes by unanimous decision on the undercard of Jake Paul’s Netflix fight against Mike Tyson.
A recent Kofluence report revealed that India’s influencer marketing industry would continue growing. By 2028, over 80% of brands are expected to spend up to 30% of their marketing budgets on influencer collaborations. Total industry spending is projected to reach $2.8-3.5 billion during that period.
Both fighters bring previous boxing experience to the potential match. McGregor’s sole professional boxing appearance was a 2017 loss to Floyd Mayweather. His last UFC fight ended in defeat to Dustin Poirier in 2021, where he suffered a leg injury. McGregor, whom a jury recently found guilty of assaulting a woman in a civil rape case, indicated in the tweet plans to return to MMA following the proposed exhibition.
Paul, who recently announced his retirement from WWE during an episode of his “IMPAULSIVE” podcast citing his new role as a father, has also faced Mayweather in an exhibition match in 2021. His recent focus has been on WWE wrestling, where he gained popularity before his recently announced retirement.
This potential match follows years of speculation about a McGregor fight with the Paul family. In 2020, Jake Paul claimed he was in negotiations to fight the Irishman, though those discussions never materialized into an actual bout.
The development of this event remains in preliminary stages, with final agreements yet to be announced.
