Connor DeWolfe On Building A Community Through ADHD Awareness

Connor DeWolfe has transformed social media discussions about ADHD by combining comedy with education. His TikTok posts have grown into a platform with millions of followers, leading to an acting career featuring collaborations with Morgan Freeman and Liam Hemsworth.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Connor sought creative expression while adapting to online acting classes. “You’re at home, and everyone has different ways of coping,” he recalls. “There was a part of me that almost needed an audience, in a way, to keep my brain sharp.”

His personal experience with ADHD, diagnosed at age 14, shaped his content direction. “My parents always told me, ‘We all have ADHD,’ but we never really did anything about it,” he explains.

“There was always a part of me where I would question why I could not prioritize and organize as well as other people in my class. I would just get so stressed before tests… Even if I enjoyed the class and the subject, there was still so much zoning out that I couldn’t hone in and focus on what the teacher said,” he adds.

March 2021 marked a turning point when Connor’s video about ADHD traits went viral.

“I was in the shower, and this idea popped into my head. It felt like the script aligned itself,” Connor shares. “As a kid in elementary school, as long as I can remember, I got very fixated on learning new weird things like spinning the basketball on your finger, solving the Rubik’s Cube, painting… I didn’t stop until I learned and mastered that skill.”

The video reached 11 million viewers, immediately expanding Connor’s following to 120,000. “You go viral, and like your ADHD brain’s like, ‘Oh, look at that, dopamine,'” he jokes. “I instantly became hyper-fixated on TikTok… I got just into making more and more videos, and I did a lot of picking up on things I do throughout the day, doing a lot of research, and enjoying the process.”

Balancing Education with Entertainment

Connor’s content stands out through its dual focus on information and engagement

“I always viewed ADHD genuinely as a superpower,” he explains. “Yes, there were parts of me that made it very difficult, but also a part that made me focus on my interests. That’s where I’ve always attributed my creativity, acting, and ability to put myself into a world.”

His signature format features interactions between ADHD and non-ADHD perspectives.

“It was usually one non-ADHD and one ADHD,” Connor explains. “What does the outside society say about this, and what the experience of the person with ADHD is? I just started coming up with these scripts and posting more and more different things about my brain and personal experiences with ADHD in a comedic way relatable to an audience.”

Production Excellence Through Practice

Connor’s technical skills have grown substantially since his early phone recordings.

“I really enjoy cameras, and even though I just film on my iPhone, I enjoy cinematography,” he shares. “I just learned about different lighting. I went with what looked good and would just put different LEDs and lights in the background. That’s what I became known for; the look of my videos was the different lights in the background.”

His creative process combines spontaneity with planning. “Most of the time, there’s sometimes where just an idea pops in my head, and I immediately have to follow it through where I get the idea, and it’s just a spark of inspiration, and I roll with that momentum,” he explains.

“The scriptwriting process just comes very easily. I write it out; I already see it in my head. I can already see the lighting, where I want, and how I want the video to look,” he adds.

Strategic Platform Management

Connor’s distribution strategy adapts to platform changes. “For a long time, I was just studying TikTok and seeing what that algorithm did, seeing how people responded, and adjusting accordingly,” he explains. “Instagram has developed its Reels. They’ve caught up to TikTok in a lot of ways.”

His approach prioritizes content quality over platform mechanics. “I used to feel like I had a good grasp on how the algorithm worked, but now it’s just… it’s grown so much,” he reflects.

“Now it’s just posting what I truly believe is good. And if it’s good, other people will enjoy it if I’m enjoying it. So I don’t focus too much on how the algorithm works.”

Building Meaningful Connections

Connor reveals that his greatest satisfaction is the community impact. “I think the most rewarding thing is that I don’t have that many haters,” he reflects. “I’ve created a page where many people feel safe… hearing people’s stories and hearing other people’s experiences has been the most rewarding.”

As his platform grows, the creator aims to explore new creative directions while maintaining his core message.

“I want to post much of my other writing, primarily sketch comedy,” he shares. “It’s always going to relate to neurodivergence just because I am neurodivergent, but there are just a lot of comedic scripts I have.”

For emerging creators, Connor offers simple yet effective advice: “Don’t follow anyone else’s path; follow your own. Don’t follow someone else’s arrow.”

“Post what you love and what you’re passionate about because there’s nothing more that engages an audience. When you’re engaged, and people can see that passion, people hop on to what you love.”
