70% Of Artists Struggle To Break Through – DistroKid’s Podcast Deal Aims To Change That
In an industry where 10 million artists compete for attention on Spotify alone, independent music distributor DistroKid is partnering with podcast network Evergreen Podcasts to address artists’ discoverability challenges, their joint announcement reads.
According to MIDiA’s report “The State and Future of Music Fandom: Unleashing Fan Creativity,” 70% of professional artists cite “breaking through the noise/oversaturation” as one of their most complex challenges. This struggle comes as DistroKid reports distributing approximately 35,000 tracks daily, or 1 million tracks monthly, which they estimate represents 30-40% of all new music globally.
The partnership between DistroKid and Evergreen Podcasts plans to “spotlight artists both within and outside Evergreen’s network, helping them to ‘Be Prolific’ and succeed in the competitive music industry,” as stated in their joint announcement.
This collaboration follows MIDiA’s recent report “Defining Podcast Taste: The Universal Appeal of Music, News, and Comedy,” which highlights the growing intersection of music and podcasts.
While the current agreement focuses on DistroKid sponsoring Evergreen’s music podcasts to reach music-makers, industry observers note the potential for expanded collaboration. Possibilities include licensing DistroKid’s catalog to Evergreen for use in podcasts or creating branded podcasts featuring DistroKid artists.
