Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Breaks Record for ‘Most-Streamed Sporting Event Ever’ with 108M Live Global Viewers, Netflix Reports
Netflix’s live-streamed boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson on November 15 garnered an average of 108 million live viewers globally from opening to closing bell, making it the most-streamed sporting event in history, according to TVision and Netflix’s first-party metrics.
The fight attracted 65 million concurrent streams worldwide, with 38 million households streaming simultaneously in the United States alone. TVision, which measures audience data through 5,000 connected TV devices, reports the event captured 56 percent of U.S. television viewing between midnight and 1 a.m. during the broadcast.
Total viewership continued growing, reaching 125 million viewers through Sunday (Nov. 16). While Netflix rarely discloses total viewer metrics, making historical comparisons difficult, the fight’s performance significantly overshadowed other recent Netflix content. For context, Season 2 of “Arcane,” the platform’s second most-watched title that week, recorded 7.4 million views.
The event also set records for women’s sports. The Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano match drew 47 million average viewers nationwide, establishing it as the “most-watched professional women’s sports event in U.S. history.”
Despite technical challenges, including video quality issues and buffering problems, Netflix’s successful viewership numbers arrive as it expands its live programming slate. The streaming service plans to broadcast two live football games on Christmas Day, featuring a halftime performance by Beyoncé, and will begin airing WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” in 2024.
Other notable viewing figures from the week include “Hot Frost,” Netflix’s latest holiday romantic comedy, which led English-language films with 16 million views, while “Cobra Kai” Season 6B secured third place in English-language television series with 7.4 million views.
