KICK Launches $100,000 Developer Challenge With New Public API
KICK streaming is expanding its creator ecosystem by launching a public API and a $100,000 developer bounty program, inviting developers worldwide to build applications that enhance viewer experience on the platform.
According to App Developer Magazine, the challenge is open to both individual developers and teams. The primary requirement is to create new applications benefiting KICK’s viewer base. Judging criteria focus on originality, scalability, and user experience, with additional consideration for projects incorporating audience interactivity.
KICK plans to make developer bounties a recurring initiative, positioning this $100,000 challenge as the first in an ongoing series designed to foster innovation on the platform.
Expanding API Capabilities
The new public API provides access to key platform data, including subscriptions, follows, chat interactions, and channel information. Based on community feedback, KICK is expanding its API capabilities.
Developers can participate in the ecosystem through:
- Public GitHub documentation repositories
- Real-time collaboration via Discord discussions
- Direct input on new endpoints and integrations
Over 1,000 developers have already begun building on the platform, according to Ryan Webb, Head of Operations at KICK.
Growing with Creators and Developers
Since its founding by Bijan Tehrani and Edward Craven in 2022, KICK has grown to host more than 900,000 streamers. The platform allows creators to stream diverse content, including gaming, everyday activities, creative projects, and gambling (18+ only).
KICK maintains a creator-friendly revenue model, taking only a 5% commission from streamers compared to Twitch’s 50% and YouTube’s 30%. The platform allows creators to keep 95% of subscription revenue and 100% of tips.
This API initiative complements KICK’s other creator support programs, including the recently announced “Kick Road” campaign offering $50,000 in prizes to smaller creators averaging fewer than 100 concurrent viewers.
According to Stream Hatchet data, KICK captured 5.7% market share in 2024 with 2 billion hours watched, representing a 169% increase from 2023, while growing unique channels by 14% to 1.1 million.
“KICK was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has quickly grown into a global leader in live streaming,” Webb said in a statement. “KICK has always been fiercely creator-first, and now that commitment extends to developers.”
