How Lemonada Media’s Hit Podcasts Are Transforming Into Must-Read Books
Podcasting company Lemonada Media is expanding into book publishing through a new partnership with Simon & Schuster.
The Hollywood Reporter (THR) reports that the collaboration introduces Lemonada Books, an imprint under Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster.
The imprint’s initial offerings include two books based on popular Lemonada podcasts. “Fail Better,” hosted by actor and director David Duchovny, features conversations with well-known guests about failure.
The second book, “Last Day,” is inspired by the experiences of Lemonada co-founders Stephanie Wittels Wachs and Jessica Cordova Kramer, who both lost brothers to opioid overdoses.
“Last Day” will focus on the podcast’s first season, which launched in 2019, exploring the opioid crisis and the final days of individuals lost to opioids and gun violence. Both books will be written as narratives rather than podcast transcripts.
“Podcasting is a vibrant source for storytelling, enlightening conversation, entertainment, and helpful information—and Lemonada is a proven leader in producing the podcasts that listeners most want to hear,” Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp told THR.
Lemonada’s podcast portfolio includes “Wiser Than Me” with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Archetypes” with Meghan Markle, and “The Pink House” with Sam Smith. The company aims to expand its mission of “making life suck less at scale” through this new venture into print media.
Under this agreement, Pave-branded titles will be co-published under the Simon & Schuster trade imprint.
“We are so thrilled to be able to expand our mission and reach with Simon & Schuster and the Gallery team in this new way,” Lemonada CEO & co-founder Jessica Cordova Kramer told THR. “Lemonada Books certainly will improve readers’ lives in various ways.”
Publication dates for the inaugural titles under Lemonada Books are yet to be announced.
Lemonada Books’ launch marks Simon & Schuster’s second major podcast-related venture in recent weeks. It follows the publishing giant’s partnership with Pave Studios, a media company founded by podcast industry veteran Max Cutler.
Simon & Schuster and Pave Studios recently announced a co-publishing partnership, establishing Pave Publishing House to jointly discover, develop, and publish new book and audiobook titles.
