LTK Unveils New Video-First App To Enhance Local Creator Discoverability
Creator commerce platform LTK has announced a redesign of its consumer app, transitioning from a shopping-centric model to a video-first experience.
The updated platform enables users to discover creators based on geographic proximity and shared interests, while introducing social connectivity features for the first time.
Research cited by the company reveals 74% of consumers feel disconnected from algorithm-driven social media, while 91% of Gen Z and 78% of millennials continue to rely on creators for trend identification.
“We’ve rebuilt the LTK app from the ground up to deliver on what consumers want and what creators need— connection, discovery, and a seamless way to engage with content,” said Amber Venz Box, co-founder and President of LTK, in a press release. “We want it to be the daily destination to watch, discover and engage with creators you want to see and follow.”
Geographic Proximity Drives Content Discovery
The platform’s architectural redesign centers on location-based content surfacing, departing from the industry’s typical interest-based recommendation systems. Users can now filter creator content by proximity, viewing trends from their immediate area or exploring content from global metropolitan centers.
Content requirements have also changed, with LTK removing mandatory product tagging requirements.
A recent study published in the Journal of Marketing found that targeting “nearby” influencers with small follower counts but a connection to the brand can be 46% more effective than the conventional strategy of targeting remote influencers with large audiences.
User-Controlled Experience Replaces Algorithmic Feeds
Countering the trend of algorithm-determined content, LTK implements user-controlled feed customization through its Home Tab and Watch Tab interfaces.
The platform introduces Daily Drops, a chronological display of content published within 24 hours from followed creators, addressing user preferences for recency over algorithmic relevance.
Social functionality represents another significant platform addition, with user profiles now supporting personalization and friend connections. The Activity Tab centralizes creator updates and product notifications, while introducing direct messaging with reactions.
For content creators, LTK develops production tools within its Creator app, including:
- Video editing utilities
- Text overlay capabilities
- Visual filters and effects
- Customizable graphical elements
- Audio recording functions
- Music integration (forthcoming)
The redesigned consumer application is available immediately, with feature rollout continuing over several weeks. Creator editing tools launch in early March through the App Store.
