Meta is developing technology that would allow Instagram users to create and interact with artificial intelligence chatbots mimicking the personalities of celebrities and influencers, Social Media Today confirmed.
Screenshots discovered by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi show Instagram is building a “Create an AI version of yourself” feature in the app. This aligns with previous reports from The New York Times about Meta’s plans for Creator A.I. chatbots.
The New York Times stated the Creator A.I. program would let influencers deploy AI chatbots to respond to fans through Instagram direct messages and potential comments. The chatbots would attempt to simulate the “voice” and personality of the real influencer.
According to people briefed on Meta’s plans, the main aim is to assist popular creators with administrative tasks like responding to an overwhelming number of fan comments and messages. However, the technology is still in its early testing stages.
While Meta has not officially announced the Creator A.I. initiative, the app screenshots suggest the company is advancing the project to give Instagram users tools to create AI alter egos or digital celebrities powered by language models. The tech giant has not provided details on how the AI chatbots would be trained, implemented, or monitored for potential misuse.
