Peet Montzingo Breaks Down His Steep Path To Social Media Stardom And Advocacy

With creativity and humor, Peet Montzingo transforms perspectives on disability rights and paranormal exploration into compelling content that reaches millions.

As the only average-height member in a family of little people, he channels his distinctive experiences into meaningful social media movements that entertain and educate.

“I grew up in a family of all little people,” Peet shares. “As soon as I was 5, I wanted to move to L.A. and do something crazy.” This early ambition guided him toward music, where he joined several boy bands and toured internationally, performing as an opener for groups like Boyzone and Westlife.

“We were going to do a Jason Derulo leg,” Peet recalls his music career. “And then Covid happened, and the label told us it was over. All those years built up to nothing.” However, this apparent setback led to an unexpected opportunity: “It was also nice because it was a pause in the world, honestly.” It was then that Peet shot his first viral video.

The video showcased his unique living space. “I sleep in an ice cave. I climb up a rope and into my little Narnia,” he explains. “Another part of this apartment has a ball pit on the other side.” The video captured widespread attention, with beauty influencer James Charles among those commenting.

“I’ve always been passionate about dwarfism and being an advocate because nobody understands,” Peet says. “Throughout my life, everyone thought I was joking. So it made me want to say, ‘No, this is a thing. You shouldn’t judge someone for it. You shouldn’t call them the M-word.’ It launched me into organically doing this.”

Creating Content Across Platforms

Peet’s content spans multiple areas, from disability advocacy and family dynamics to paranormal investigation.

His fascination with paranormal investigation stems from living near the infamous Cecil Hotel. “I lived across the Cecil for so long,” he shares. “I didn’t even know this was a haunted building until my housewarming party when everyone asked, ‘Did you do this on purpose?’ I told them that it was just cheap rent. And now I know why.”

When it comes to content creation, Peet combines strategic planning with creative intuition. “I have over a thousand ideas on different notepads,” he reveals. “And I get overwhelmed because I have so many ideas and variations. Most of the time, I overthink things and end up frozen.”

The shift from creator to business owner presented unexpected hurdles. “I didn’t realize how hard being a content creator was,” Peet admits. “It sounds so stupid because there are people who work at NASA doing cool stuff, and I’m over here just making cute videos and stressing over it.”

Managing finances proved particularly challenging. “I was on welfare and poor until three years ago. Suddenly, I got all this money and didn’t know what to do,” he shares candidly. “My mind is very artistic; the logistic side is somewhat non-existent.”

Expanding Creative Horizons

Peet’s creativity extends beyond social media platforms. His children’s book, “Little Imperfections: A Tall Tale of Growing Up Different,” originated from social media poems inspired by Dr. Seuss.

“The idea for the book originated in early 2021,” he recalls. “At that time, my best-performing videos were Dr. Seuss poems I would post on socials.”

The project grew beyond initial expectations. “We thought it was going to be easy: a cash grab. Draw some pictures, get someone off Fiverr, and spend a day putting it on paperback,” he laughs. “That didn’t happen. We had to integrate the pictures in the book, do a video adaptation, find some actors, etc.”

The book exceeded expectations, selling over 10,000 copies in its first week. “The good thing with that is that it fed my soul, made me passionate, more than I already was. And I think people could see that too,” Peet shares. “We will re-release ‘Little Imperfections’ and release a new book along with that too.”

His music career continues with singles like “Carousel” (July 2024) and “B**ch Let Me Go Off” (November 2024).

“I’m starting this music project because it’s my heart and soul,” Peet explains. “It’s somewhere where I feel like I came from. I don’t know if it will work, but I’m pushing it. Music is tough when people know you as a content creator because they sometimes consider it cringy.”

These songs align with his message of self-acceptance. “‘Party with the Weirdo,’ ‘Carousel,’ and ‘Let Me Go Off,’ they’re all part of the same feeling as the book, which is just yourself,” he says. “People think you’ll be weird, so celebrate it; who cares? Laugh to the bank. It’s special; everyone should feel like a weirdo somehow.”

Peet dedicates substantial resources to his music. “Half of my time has been spent on music. It’s been a hefty investment financially and time-wise. However, I’m still excited about it,” he shares, revealing that a fourth song, “Paranoia,” will be released in early 2025.

Championing Disability Rights

Peet’s platform serves as a powerful tool for advocacy. “I’ve done many videos in various formats,” he explains. “One is my perspective, which is like my book: even if you seem normal to others, if you don’t feel that way, that’s maybe a good thing.”

His advocacy stems from his belief in individual potential. “You can use what you find as your weakness and make it your strength,” Peet shares. “I feel like I’ve done that in many ways. And that’s a way that I want to advocate for somebody, inspire them, and make them feel like they can step into their superpower, whatever that is. Everyone has a superpower and is helpful to the world.”

His educational content addresses common questions. “Another one is just with dwarfism or ADHD,” he explains. “Many people have basic questions about it, and it’s an easy lesson for me to teach. Make them laugh a little, and hopefully, they’ll remember.”

A recent advocacy effort emerged from his sister’s legal battle. “My sister was part of a four-year lawsuit where her old landlord pretty much locked her wheelchair up in their garage because there was just a lot of friction between them,” he reveals. “They used that and took away her legs for 104 days. My sister called the cops, who said it was a civil case. It’s not against the law, so you can’t do anything.”

This experience revealed systemic issues. “It blew my mind that I live in such a fantasy world where I feel everyone knows that people shouldn’t do that, but if it’s not even a law in America. There’s just so much work to do legally there.”

His sister’s victory inspired broader action. “After this whole thing ended, she won, thank God. And now she’s trying to write new laws and pitch them as bills,” Peet explains. “And I want to stand behind her and make a docu-series about what she went through and how many people go through the same. Not just people with dwarfism, but people with different disabilities.”

The community responds positively to his advocacy. “The honest feedback is very positive,” he shares. “When I started this with my mom, she laid out her only rule: ‘If we have any negative comments, people starting to make fun of little people, I’m out.’ That’s why I had to learn to make my content entertaining while teaching simultaneously. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be making content.”

Self-Reflection and Upcoming Projects

Creating content brings Peet personal satisfaction. “Knowing what it’s like to be financially stable for the first time in my life has been insane. Making sure my mom is financially stable has been another level of that,” he reflects. “It’s like looking in the mirror, seeing your childhood self, and thinking, ‘If only you could see yourself now.’”

His upcoming projects include the aforementioned documentary about disability rights with his sister, a video game about ADHD, and “Cecil Fest,” celebrating the Hotel Cecil’s centennial.

Throughout these ventures, Peet maintains his core message: “Even if you feel discouraged, know your purpose, what you want to do, and have a perspective others can learn from and potentially benefit from.”
