Vintage Vs. Vibrant Weddings: Pinterest Report Reveals Nuptial Ideas Creators Find Inspiring

Pinterest has released a report detailing how creators and couples are turning to the platform to find ideas and plan their weddings. According to the 2024 Pinterest Wedding Report, the platform has seen over 3 billion wedding-related searches and more than 10 billion wedding ideas saved globally in a single year.

“In the United States alone, nine out of ten wedding planners on Pinterest have said that it’s the first place they go to when planning for a wedding, making Pinterest the perfect planning companion to bring your inspiration to reality,” the company states.

The report highlights several emerging trends that creators and marketers in the wedding industry may find insightful. For instance, a key finding is the rise of smaller, more intimate ceremonies focused on creating experiences for guests rather than extravagant affairs. Searches relating to the “quiet life” concept of mindful living with fewer stressors increased 530% year-over-year globally.

In line with this shift, Pinterest data shows a surge in searches for simple attire like jumpsuits, short dresses, and comfortable heels. Demand is also growing for nature-inspired gowns reminiscent of fairy tales and forest themes. Gen Z users, in particular, demonstrated an affinity for “earthy” dress styles.

Venues and event types capturing interest lean toward cozy, close-knit gatherings. Trending searches include “wedding dinner party” (up 150%), “small back garden wedding reception” (up 300%), civil ceremonies, and registry office weddings. Pinterest users are gravitating toward whimsical garden settings, as well as small forest and rural venues for their big days.

The report reveals a parallel rise in demand for natural hairstyles and makeup looks. Searches spiked for styles like locs, curly hair, messy buns, and soft, “ethereal” makeup with terms like “natural glam” and “clean bridal.”

Another major theme is a resurgence of vintage aesthetics across jewelry, attire, and decor. Queries for elements like antique rings, pearl necklaces, 1970s dresses, and 60s-themed styling increased significantly. Gen Z exhibited a particular interest in vintage lace dresses and cakes.

In contrast, the data also indicates an emerging “rebellion” against traditional neutral color palettes. “Now, Pinners, especially Gen Z, are rebelling against the classic beige and white wedding and embracing bright colors throughout their wedding décor and outfits,” the report reads.

Vibrant, eclectic styles are taking hold, with steep rises in searches for colorful bouquets, bold jewel tones like orange and sage green, and even non-traditional colored wedding gowns in shades like green and purple. Gen Z stands out with a distinct penchant for red accents across dresses, flowers, cakes, and suiting.

Finally, the report surfaces an increasing appetite for gothic glamour and dark romantic aesthetics. The popularity of terms like “dark fantasy wedding” and “moody wedding colors” skyrocketed, indicating some couples are gravitating toward a more dramatic, intimate ambiance.
