Plannin Taps 600+ Influencers To Create Authentic Travel Recs And Earn A 5% Lifetime Commission On Hotel Bookings
Former Priceline executives Andrew Loewen and Randy Schartner have co-founded Plannin, a new global travel booking platform launching with over 600 influencers onboard. The platform will leverage the $250 billion creator economy by empowering influencers to monetize hotel recommendations and share travel-focused content, TechCrunch reports.
According to Loewen, Plannin’s unique selling point is providing travelers with authentic recommendations from trusted creators, as opposed to relying on anonymous reviews. The platform currently features about 5,000 posts and 1,500 recommendations, with plans to expand into restaurant reservations and activities through partnerships with OpenTable and GetYourGuide.
Plannin’s influencer approval process requires a minimum of 10,000 followers, but the company revealed to TechCrunch it may consider micro-influencers specializing in travel content. Creators can earn a 5% lifetime commission on bookings made by their followers, even if the booking occurs 15 to 60 days after the account creation.
Schartner believes that influencers will provide honest reviews to their audience due to the deep connection they share on personal social media. “Most people wouldn’t lie or mislead on their personal socials because they have a deeper connection with their audience,” he told TechCrunch.
Plannin’s search capability includes over 2 million hotels worldwide, thanks to its partnership with Booking Holdings, which owns Priceline, Agoda, Booking.com, and OpenTable.
According to TechCrunch, Plannin will introduce “Trip Boards” later this month, allowing creators to curate full itineraries with experiences, hotels, and restaurants from a single destination. The company secured $2.5 million in funding last year, led by Golden Ventures, N49P, and former Booking Holdings CEO Jeffery Boyd, with plans to raise more venture capital this summer.
