Project 2025 Vision For America: Some Creators Praise It, Others Fear It

Young content creators are driving the conversation around Project 2025, a conservative policy blueprint for the next Republican presidential administration. NBC News reports that the plan, developed by the Heritage Foundation and Trump allies, has sparked debate on social media platforms, particularly TikTok.

Sidney Watts, a 21-year-old college student in Queens, New York, posted a video criticizing Project 2025 in early June. The video garnered over half a million views within days. “I wanted it to be talked about, whether good or bad,” Watts says. “It just needed to be out there.”

The project’s main playbook, “Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise,” outlines four broad recommendations in more than 900 pages. These include restoring the family as the centerpiece of American life, dismantling the administrative state, defending national sovereignty and borders, and securing individual rights.

On TikTok, more than 30,000 posts have been tagged with #Project2025. Creators like Marquis “QBtheDon” Bryant, a middle school math teacher, warn against the plan’s “dangers.” Others, such as college student Lili Orozco, share the potential benefits of its implementation.

Bryant, who teaches in a low-income community in Atlanta, expresses concern about the project’s proposal to slash funding for Title I, a federal program supporting schools with high percentages of children from low-income families. “It’s going to widen the gap between wealthy and impoverished schools,” Bryant said in his video.

Christopher “Topher” Townsend, a conservative social media influencer, supports aspects of Project 2025, including its stance on parental rights in education and dissolving federal agencies. “Some people disagree with whatever they disagree with, but there are some things in it that I think are great for a conservative leadership,” Townsend stated in a video.

The engagement around Project 2025 is notable as young people are expected to play a role in what could be a close election. Jiore Craig, a senior fellow for digital integrity with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, observes, “The increase in content generated about Project 2025 and the metrics suggests young people are paying attention and doing their homework in the way they know how — on social media and using short-form video content to share their take.”

Political figures have also taken notice. NBC reports that President Joe Biden’s campaign encourages people to “Google Project 2025,” while former President Donald Trump has distanced himself from the project, calling pieces of it “absolutely ridiculous and abysmal” on his platform, Truth Social.

Ed Benton, a constitutional scholar and political science professor at the University of South Florida, describes the plan as “a very far-right-wing approach to government.” He adds, “It would certainly affect people who depend on the government — low-income, senior citizens, and those on Medicare and Medicaid.”
