Meta’s Threads platform is testing new features that include text-blocking spoiler tags and customizable post templates, according to findings from app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi.
The spoiler feature allows users to black out selected text portions within posts through a “Mark spoiler” option in the composer interface. Unlike similar functions on Reddit and X that require manual editing or code tags, Threads’ implementation appears to integrate directly into the posting workflow.
The platform is simultaneously testing post templates, accessible through the composer menu. This tool enables users to select from pre-existing templates or create their own. The feature aims to facilitate participation in trending post formats while maintaining Threads’ text-focused approach.
While Meta has historically replicated successful elements from competing platforms, Social Media Today notes these new tools represent original functionality specific to Threads’ use cases.
The spoiler tag system could serve multiple content categories, including sports results, television discussions, and movie plot points. Meanwhile, the template feature focuses on enabling users to engage with popular posting trends through standardized formats.
Both features are currently in testing, with no announced launch date. The developments have come as Threads recently surpassed 300 million users and started testing ads.
