TikTok’s #ElectronicMusic Hub Goes Global Amid Growth
TikTok is expanding its #ElectronicMusic hub globally, coinciding with the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE).
The move comes as the platform reports significant growth in electronic music content creation and engagement.
According to TikTok’s data, #ElectronicMusic has seen a 70% year-on-year increase in video creation globally. Specific subgenres have also experienced substantial growth, with #DnB up 50%, #Techno up 63%, and #Trance seeing a 73% increase.
“Electronic music has made its spiritual home on TikTok,” said Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok, in a news release. “It’s the perfect place for artists to showcase their creativity through both music and visuals, and fans are sharing their love for the genre by remixing sounds, driving trends, and posting clips from their favorite live sets.”
The platform reports that TikTok hosted 3.5 billion views of Tomorrowland content this year, 40 million posts related to Keinemusik’s scarves, and over 100 million views of ANOTR’s content.
Several electronic artists have gained prominence on TikTok:
- Dimitri Vegas, with 2.3 million followers, is named the face of #ElectronicMusic across Europe for the next month.
- Hannah Laing, the “Queen of ‘#DOOF,'” transitioned from dental nursing to full-time DJing.
- Eliza Rose gained recognition through her UK #1 hit single ‘B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All).’
- Adam Port’s track with Stryv and Malachiii went viral on TikTok before its official release.
- Chase & Status reached #1 in the UK Official Charts with ‘BACKBONE,’ introducing Drum & Bass to a new audience.
- Jazzy became the first Irish solo female artist to top the chart since 2009 with ‘Giving Me.’
The #ElectronicMusic hub is launching in markets including the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, USA, and Australia. It will be active for a month and showcase content from established and emerging artists in the electronic music space.
TikTok reports that electronic music’s success on the platform is due to its “infectious energy, global appeal, and the creative ways the community celebrates the genre.” The company states that whether sharing music, remixing tracks, or creating trends, the TikTok community has embraced electronic music worldwide.
TikTok recently announced it would discontinue its music-streaming application, TikTok Music, on November 28. The app, which combined social features with music streaming, launched in July 2023 in Indonesia and Brazil and later expanded to Singapore, Australia, and Mexico.
Obermann stated that the closure focuses on “furthering TikTok’s role in driving even greater music listening and value on music streaming services for the benefit of artists, songwriters, and the industry.”
