Double The Content, Double The Fun: TikTok’s Flip Stories Explained
TikTok has rolled out Flip Story, a new feature that allows creators to add a second side to their stories, unlockable with a flip gesture.
This addition expands the platform’s storytelling capabilities, joining existing formats like Playlists, Stitches, and live videos.
Flip Story aims to enhance connection and engagement between creators and their followers. The feature supports various content types, including before-and-after photos, exclusive announcements, and sneak peeks.
To create a Flip Story, users tap the “+” button on the Create page or their Profile photo, then select the Flip Story option. Creators must upload two sides to their Story, with the option to capture content directly or upload images from their device. Currently, Flip Stories only supports image uploads.
Viewers access the hidden content by pressing the “Hold to Flip” button on the first side of a Flip Story. Upon reveal, the second side plays for a few seconds. Creators can view separate lists of viewers for each side of their Flip Story.
“Flip Story opens new opportunities for connection and engagement between creators and their follower communities,” TikTok wrote in a blog post.
TikTok applies its standard moderation process to all Flip Story content.
Artist Billie Eilish recently utilized Flip Story to reveal a before-and-after look at her “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR” preparations. This follows TikTok’s May collaboration with Eilish, which included an in-app experience for her album release and the debut of the Fan Spotlight feature.
TikTok is launching a new in-app experience throughout Eilish’s North American tour leg. Fans can complete tasks to unlock rewards, including a tour-themed profile frame and exclusive content from the artist.
Instagram, TikTok’s rival, recently unveiled a new feature for its “Stories.” Namely, Instagram Story comments will remain visible 24 hours after posting or longer if the story is added as a highlight. The platform may offer an option to disable this feature.
