The new functionality allows streamers to incorporate their phone, a friend’s device, or even an iPad as an additional camera angle during desktop-based TikTok Live broadcasts. While multi-camera streaming has previously been available in TikTok Studio, this update additionally reduces technical barriers for creators.
According to an Oxford Economics survey, TikTok Live is the most popular feature on the platform, used by approximately 80% of respondents.
Expanding Creator Possibilities
Social Media Today believes the simplified connection process particularly benefits gaming streamers, who often struggle to simultaneously display gameplay and their reactions. Many TikTok gaming broadcasts currently show only gameplay footage, as creators may lack either the technical expertise or system capacity to utilize dual cameras effectively.
This update makes multi-angle streaming more accessible to a broader creator base, potentially increasing the number of streamers showing their faces during broadcasts.
Beyond gaming, the feature offers advantages for various content categories. Shopping streams and behind-the-scenes content can leverage the dual-camera setup to provide viewers with additional context.
Growing Live Ecosystem
As TikTok’s live streaming capabilities continue to gain traction, the platform positions TikTok Studio as its official streaming tool for desktop users. The application supports multi-scene setups, screen sharing, and game capture while providing creators with access to real-time comments, viewership data, and performance analytics.
The update aligns with broader industry developments, including Streamlabs’ recent integration with TikTok. As Streamlabs head Ashray Urs told Net Influencer, “TikTok is swiftly becoming a significant streaming destination for gamers,” highlighting the platform’s growing importance in this segment of the creator economy.
