Watermark-Free Downloads Now Available On TikTok, But What’s The Catch?

TikTok has introduced a new feature allowing creators to download videos without the platform’s watermark. According to Social Media Today, this update enables more accessible content repurposing across multiple social media apps. However, it comes with a condition: users must first post the video on TikTok before accessing the watermark-free download option.

The feature, spotted by Jonah Manzano, presents users with a choice to “save with watermark” or “post to save without watermark” during the upload process. The company addresses the challenge creators face when sharing TikTok content on platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, or YouTube Shorts, where watermarked videos may face restrictions or reduced visibility.

TikTok has offered watermark-free downloads since early 2024, but the new post-first requirement aims to ensure that content created using TikTok’s tools is initially shared on the platform. Social Media Today suggests the latest change may impact users who previously utilized TikTok’s editing features without posting to the app. Creators can access this new option in the Save menu of the latest TikTok app version.
