YouTube Begins Testing Multiplayer Feature For In-App Gaming
YouTube is expanding its gaming presence by introducing multiplayer capabilities to its “Playables” platform, allowing users to compete in real-time gaming sessions directly within the app.
As announced on YouTube’s support page, the initial test phase includes two games: Ludo Club and Magic Tiles 3, both accessible on desktop and mobile devices. This development builds upon YouTube’s existing Playables feature, launched in May, which currently offers more than 75 mobile games that users can play without leaving the platform.
According to Social Media Today, the gaming sector represents a significant portion of YouTube’s engagement metrics, with gaming content generating billions of watch hours annually. Many of the platform’s most prominent creators maintain strong connections to the gaming community, making the expansion into interactive gaming a natural progression for the service.
YouTube joins several major tech platforms that have integrated gaming features into their core offerings. Netflix, Meta, and LinkedIn have all launched similar initiatives, with LinkedIn specifically focusing on puzzle games within its platform.
While YouTube has not disclosed usage statistics for its Playables feature since its launch, the introduction of multiplayer functionality suggests user engagement has met internal benchmarks. The company indicates this release marks the beginning of a broader testing phase, with additional features planned for the Playables platform.
